  • Q: My robot is not driving correctly.

A: Please double-check the wiring connection of the foot motors. The wires going to “LM” on the MeccaBrain should be connected to the left foot motor. The wires going to “RM” on the MeccaBrain should be connected to the right foot motor. If that does not resolve the issue, please double-check the instruction manual to confirm that the feet have been built correctly. For more assistance, please review our instructional videos here:

  • Q: My robot doesn't seem to function as expected.

A: If you are having trouble, please update the robot’s code to the most recent version. Click here to download the Robot Updater Software and then follow the instructions.

  • Q: Meccanoid is not responding to my voice commands.

A: Meccanoid uses active listening. Therefore, when Meccanoid is talking, Meccanoid cannot hear what you are saying. Meccanoid will beep to let you know when it is ready for a command. Always wait for the beep before giving a command. When talking, try not to speak too fast or too slow. Be firm with your commands and be sure to speak in a clear and steady voice in order for Meccanoid to understand you. For more assistance, please review our instructional videos here.

When Meccanoid is in Drone Mode, some voice commands are not available. Here is the list of voice commands that are active and available in Drone mode

    • Motion Control, Forward, Backward, Left Turn, Right Turn, Turn Around, Record L-I-M, L-I-M library
    • Settings, Set Date, Set Clock, Learn my name, Name robot, Systems check, Adjust volume
    • Main Menu
    • Help
    • List Commands
    • Go to sleep

For more details, please check out the user guide.

Meccanoid comes pre-programmed from the factory to interact in English. If you would like Meccanoid to interact in another language, please change its language first using the Robot Updater Software. Learn more about the download of a new language here.

  • Q: I’ve changed my robot’s name. Now I want to go back to “Meccanoid”.

  • Q: I want to program my robot using Learned Intelligent Movement (L.I.M.) mode and save that program.

A: L.I.M. programming is very easy and intuitive. L.I.M. programming allows you to create and record animations by physically moving the robot and recording sounds into its MeccaBrain. Once recorded, you can play them back as a program.

Meccanoid will walk you through the steps for L.I.M. programming or you can check out our How-To videos for more help. Click here to view available How-To Videos.

  • Q: I have recorded and saved an L.I.M. program, but it does not play back when I say the name of the L.I.M. program.

A: If you are having trouble playing back an L.I.M. program that you have saved and named, it could be due to an issue with the customized voice command. In this case, it may be best to delete the existing L.I.M. program that you previously recorded and rerecord a new one. Here are steps on how to delete a file in your L.I.M. library:

    • On your Meccanoid, press the Green button on the MeccaBrain to access the L.I.M. library, or say “L.I.M. Library” at the voice prompt.
    • Pressing the Green button will read a list of your L.I.M. animations
    • When you hear the name of the L.I.M. you want to play back, press the Green button again and the L.I.M. will automatically begin to play.
    • After it is done playing, you may press the Red button to delete the L.I.M.

    Tips:

    • When saving an L.I.M. program, be sure to choose a short name (no longer than two seconds) that you will remember easily.
    • When recording the name of your L.I.M., make sure you are in a quiet area.

Drone Mode

  • Q: What does Drone Mode do?

A: When you have built the Meccanoid as a humanoid robot, you will want to make sure you are in Robot mode. On the back of the MeccaBrain, there is a switch that allows you to put the Meccanoid in Robot or Drone mode. Robot mode tells the MeccaBrain to activate all of the interactive features of your robot. Drone mode tells the MeccaBrain to activate select features of your build. Use the Drone mode when you want to build something other than a humanoid robot.

  • Q: Are the features of the Drone mode and the Robot mode similar?

A: Your Meccanoid behaves differently when in Robot or Drone mode. Here is a summary of the differences:

    • Voice Commands: In Drone mode, certain voice commands (such as “Settings”, “Forward”, “Backward”, “Left Turn”, etc.) will still work, but other interactive commands (such as “Introduce Yourself”, “Walk with Me”, “High Five”, “Tell me a Joke”, “Kung Fu”, “Exercise”, “Dance”, “Shake Hands”, “What time is it?”) will not work. Please refer to the user guide of the robot to see the list of voice commands active in Drone Mode.
    • App: Also, when your robot is in Drone mode and you connect to the app, it will direct you to the sliders page of the app. The sliders page will allow you to individually control all the servomotors, motors, and LEDs. Motion capture and ragdoll avatar capability are not available in Drone Mode.
